Woodturning| Log to Owl
Woodturning| Log to Owl
In this video you will see me turning some scrap wood and a Yew log in to a cute little owl. This is a beginner's turning project and really is pretty straightforward.
I decided to keep sections of bark on to look like wings and feathers and kept the design very basic, it could be a little more fancy with ears and so on if you wanted to spruce him up even more so.

Making a 5000 year old bog oak and abalone pendant - no lathe
Переглядів 4162 роки тому
In this video you will see me making a pendant from 5000 year old Norfolk bog oak and abalone shell without a lathe! So, it's not a wood whirling video this time, but it was fun to try something different. I used the leftover Norfolk bog oak from my pendant turning video, abalone shell fragments and some UV resin to make this pendant. I'm new to working with the UV resin but found it straightfo...
Woodturning| Wooden Penguin for beginners

Woodturning| Wooden Penguin for beginners My friend Lydia made a chicken called Frank, Frank inspired this penguin creation. In this video you will see me woodturning a simple penguin with a comedy surprise! This is a project for beginners as essentially it's a very straigtforward shape to turn and it doesn't have to be painted - I'm pretty sure an all wooden penguin would work just fine too. I...

In this video you can come along with me on my Orkney Mainland - Visit Scotland - Mini Adventure. I didn't intend to film anything to show on UA-cam initially, but decided part way through the trip that I should try to put something together to show you some of the mini adventures I get up to when I am not in the workshop! The videography will improve - I promise. This was my first ever visit i...
Woodturning| A Pendant With 5000 year old bog oak!
Переглядів 1,4 тис.2 роки тому
In this video you'll see me making a pendant with some pieces of 5000 year old Norfolk bog oak. My maker chum, Huw, from Wooden It Be Nice, kindly sent me some bog oak penplanks a few months ago. I made a pen or two but wanted to try something different with this incredible wood. I dug out my home made pendant making jig, mixed up some resin and made a bog oak and resin hybrid pendant. Take a l...
Woodturning| Fence Post Log to Vase

In my Woodturning| Fence Post Log to vase video you will see how I turned what was discarded into something with rustic charm. It's a quick project and anyone could try it, please don't go chopping down farmers fences, they really don't like that sort of thing! Any scrap wood would do really, I'm sure most people have stuff hanging around in their sheds, workshops and firewood scrap pile. I was...

Woodturning | Monkey Puzzle Exploded Log Vase In this woodturning video I attempt to turn a monkey puzzle log into an exploded wooden vase. Monkey puzzle is really cool, it has branches growing through the entire log which gives it a really interesting look. The log I was given had a hole drilled all the way through it, I'm not sure why, I almost didn't turn it, but then I figured I would cut o...
Woodturning | A Pin Cushion

In this video you will see me woodturning a Pin Cushion using tulip wood, a cottonball and a small swatch of harris tweed fabric. This is a simple turning for beginner's like me. I thought it would make a great craft stall item or nice gift for someone who likes to sew. Pin cushions are the best place to store your pins! I turned it on a worm screw initially and then formed a tennon to remount ...

Woodturning | My first bowl with carbides - spalted beech In this video you will see me woodturning my first ever bowl with carbides. I haven't tried traditional tools -YET- but, I will. For the moment though, I am happy to continue to get to grips with and improve with my carbides. English Woods kindly sent me a few of their bowl blanks to turn and it gave me an idea... yeah, you guessed it......

Woodturning a Skateboard Pendant | Craft Stall Item

In this video I turn a Skateboard Pendant from a scrap skateboard and some maple. This is also my first attempt using a home made off centre turning jig! The Skateboard Pendant came out pretty well. I have seen people make pendants before and hadn't quite figured out how to make a jig to help when it came time to cut out the hole used to hang the pendant on leather cord. I thought about using d...

Suggestion for those getting started: Use distilled water to quench the heat. The minerals and other trace elements in tap or even filtered & spring bottled water can leave deposits on the metal and interfere with the coloration.
